In February 2024, SEED established the Secondary Education Communities of Practice (CoP) in response to feedback from school leaders within the SEED Community. This initiative addressed their concerns about the need for tailored support and programmes to provide quality secondary education, preparing students for higher education and the workforce.

Following up on this commitment, SEED Care & Support Foundation organized a transformative study tour to TAIDOB College in Abeokuta, Ogun State on October 8, 2024. This tour, which also stemmed from the GSF Uganda Secondary Education Study Tour, focused on integrating vocational education and promoting excellence in secondary school management.

Empowering School Leaders Through Exposure

“Real life experience beats classroom case studies anytime.”

The one-day event brought together 10 school leaders from low-fee private schools across five Education Districts in Lagos State. Participants gained valuable insights into best practices and fostered collaboration in vocational training and secondary education management.

Highlights and Key Learnings

The day commenced with a warm welcome and orientation, during which we explored TAIDOB College’s impressive achievements in integrating academics with vocational training. The College Director’s inspiring address emphasized the importance of moral values and high educational standards.

The team then embarked on a tour of TAIDOB’s cutting-edge vocational facilities, which included Graphics & Web Design, Robotics & Artificial Intelligence, Leather Works (Shoe & Bag Making), Photography & Cinematography, Catering and Confectionery, Fashion Designing, and Cosmetology. These facilities showcased how practical skills can be seamlessly integrated into the curriculum, providing students with invaluable real-world opportunities.

The bus journeys to and from the Study Tour location facilitated interactive peer learning, allowing participants to share their experiences and challenges. This exchange highlighted the power of community-driven solutions in addressing educational obstacles.

A Path to Quality, Affordable and Relevant Secondary Education

This study tour exemplifies SEED Care & Support Foundation’s mission to enable quality education for all children by empowering school leaders with practical tools and innovative ideas. Through such initiatives, SEED continues to drive a culture of excellence in Nigeria’s education sector.

Participants expressed a keen interest in implementing lessons from the tour in their own schools, with many planning to incorporate vocational training into their curricula. The tour’s impact was evident when Gleam Stars Schools, inspired by the visit, conducted a study tour within Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, Lagos State and began converting a building into an Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Skill Acquisition Hub, complete with a mini farm and poultry. These actions highlight the tangible influence of the study tour on participating schools. It’s also worth noting that Great Prestige Schools and Softland Heights School also took steps to integrate skills development in their curricula within the first two months following the tour.

SEED remains dedicated to organising similar tours and learning opportunities, inspiring more schools to adopt best practices. Together, we can ensure that every child receives a quality education that paves the way for a brighter future.
